Multiple Teams · 8 Marion Athletes Earn a Spot on the Chronicle-Tribune’s Top-25


The Chronicle-Tribune released its list of the Top-25 athletes from the winter sports season in Grant County.  Schools represented were Eastbrook, Madison-Grant, Marion, Mississinewa and Oak Hill.
Lexie Vincent, a diver from Oak Hill High School was the C-T Athlete of the Year for the winter sports season.  Marion had eight athletes represented in the Top-25.  They are listed below, along with summaries of their accomplishments, according to the Chronicle-Tribune.
4. Vijay Blackmon (Boys Basketball)

The Giant junior was named the Chronicle-Tribune’s Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year. He was named to the Indiana All-Star Junior North team and also was named to the IBCA/Subway Underclassman team. Blackmon helped the Giants to a 15-10 record by leading Marion with an average of 21.3 points per game.

8. JC Herring (Wrestling)

The Marion sophomore finished his season with a 16-4 record. He won the sectional and regional at 106 pounds. Herring won his opening match at semistate, beating Max Harris from Union City by pin.

9. Emily Murphy (Gymnastics)

The Marion senior qualified for the regional on the balance beam. She qualified for the regional for the fourth straight time in her prep career after placing fourth on the balance beam at the sectional with a 9.050.
12. Reggie Jones (Boys Basketball)
The Marion junior was named to the IBCA/Subway Underclassman team. Helping the Giants to a 15-10 record, Jones average 13 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
15. Dejah Cyrus (Girls Basketball)
The senior helped the Giants reach the sectional championship game. She averaged 17.2 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while helping Marion to a 16-9 record.
18. Devin Maggard (Wrestling)
The Marion junior finished with a 23-17 record. He was one match away from advancing to the state finals. Maggard won his opening match at semistate by technical fall over Logan Maynard from Goshen.
19. De’Andre Hodge (Wrestling)

The Marion junior finished with a 14-8 record. He was one match away from advancing to the state finals. Hodge won his first match at semistate, beating Nick Mammolenti from Jimtown by pin.

25. Sam Diedrich (Girls Swimming)

The Marion senior qualified for the consolation finals in the backstroke and 100 freestyle at the sectional. She placed 15th in the 100 freestyle and was 12th in the backstroke. Diedrich took third place in the backstroke and fifth place in the 100 freestyle during the NCC Meet at Purdue University.
