Softball coach Gary Henderson led the Marion Giants to their best conference finish in school history. The Giants advanced to the North Central Conference Championship game at Grand Park in Westfield. They finished 2nd in the NCC after falling to Kokomo 9-4 in the title game.
To advance to the conference championship game, they won 3 tournament games in a row against Lafayette Jeff (12-time NCC champ), #1 seeded Richmond and Logansport (11-time NCC Champion).
In the semifinal game, Natalie Hale, Taylor Asher and Caitie Plummer all had 2 hits each. Asher, a freshman, struck out 4 en route to a complete game victory. Plummer, Asher and Brianna Davis also had 2 hits in the championship game.
Even though the young Giants were the underdogs as the #5 seed in the East Dvision, they caught fire at the right time. Only two of the Giants regular starters are seniors.
