The Marion boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving teams each picked up their second victories of the season on Thursday night.
The Giants’ boys’ team defeated Wabash 108-58 and the girls’ team defeated Wabash 91-66.
“I felt like we did well,” Marion coach Robert Burchell said. “I didn’t really know too much about Wabash coming in, but I was happy with the way we performed. We did well in the pool and outside of the pool we acted well and had good maturity for a young group of people.”
In the girls’ meet, Kaylan Williams won two individual events and was part of two first-place relay teams. Williams won the 50 freestyle in 26.56 seconds and the breaststroke in 1:20.15. She teamed with Sophia Kitts, Anna Hussong and Katie Erickson to win the 200 medley relay in 2:17.09. She teamed with Hussong, Erickson and Kitts to win the 200 freestyle relay in 2:01.71.
Hussong won the 200 IM in 2:59.72 and was second in the butterfly in 1:25.04. Erickson won the 100 freestyle in 1:07.43. Kitts won the 500 freestyle in 7:01.50. Taylor Fleece won the 200 freestyle in 2:40.54 and was second in the 500 freestyle in 7:11.86.
The team of Katie Murphy, Sophie Schenck, Fleece and Erickson won the 400 freestyle relay in 5:10.42.
Phoebe Atkins dropped 12 seconds in the 100 freestyle, taking fourth in 1:35.18.
“I was really proud of the girls, especially with the fact we were missing a couple of key swimmers because of illness,” Burchell said.
In the boys’ meet, Noah McBee won two individual events and was part of two first-place relay teams. McBee won the 50 freestyle in 25.59 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 58.71 seconds. He teamed with Tyler Morgan, Jalen Springer and Sam Vermilion to win the 200 medley relay in 2:07.64. He teamed with Morgan, Vermilion and Thomas Schenck to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:16.28.
Schenck won the 200 freestyle in 2:15.53 and the 500 freestyle in 6:27.11. He teamed with Springer, McBee and Vermilion to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:48.70.
Springer won the butterfly in 1:10.84. Morgan won the backstroke in 1:18.89 and was second in the 500 freestyle in 6:45.29. Vermilion was second in the butterfly in 1:17.46. Drake Gunyon was second in the backstroke in 1:19.52. Jackson Richard was second in the breaststroke in 1:27.78.
