Marion High School’s next athletic director will build on a long career in education and athletics and recent accolades from the Kentucky High School Athletic Directors Association as he returns to Indiana for his new role with the Giants.
Mike Quinn, a Vincennes native, most recently has served as athletic director for Madisonville North Hopkins High School in Madisonville, Ky., since 2011. This year, KHSADA named Quinn one of their regional athletic directors of the year. He has also served in various administrative positions for KHSADA.
“It’s great to have the chance to be back home in Indiana — ‘back home again’, as Jim Nabors sang for so many years at the Indy 500,” Quinn said. “It’s wonderful, too, to have the opportunity to serve at Marion High School, a school with renowned athletic tradition and history, and great academic success, too. Putting those two things together — academics and athletics — is exciting. I’m looking forward to bringing some new ideas in and building on that tradition, making it even stronger than it is today.”
The Marion Community Schools Board of School Trustees approved his hiring as Marion High School athletic director at their regular meeting on July 13.
“I am excited for Mike Quinn to join our GIANT family,” Marion High School Principal Keith Burke said. “With his proven track record of success, he will do great things for the MHS Athletic Department.”
Quinn has previously served in various teaching and coaching positions at school corporations in Indiana and Kentucky, and he is also a licensed official for the High School Athletic Associations of both Indiana and Kentucky. He has coached football, baseball, softball, basketball, and track, and he has taught social studies, U.S. history, civics, physical education, and health, and has also been involved in substance abuse prevention and education, as well as special education.
He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education and U.S. history from Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
