Boys Varsity Football · Marion Giant Football keeps on rolling

Not even a rain soaked muddy football field could slow down the 2018 Giant football team. Marion rolled to their fourth straight victory of the season with a 53-0 win at Anderson on Friday night.

Marion started their scoring explosion on a 49 yard touchdown run by JK Thomas with 8:07 to play in the opening quarter. Then due to the slippery conditions the score remained 6-0 until Thomas ran in a 19 yard touchdown with 7:43 left in the first half. Before the first half closed, Anderson instead of punting from their own end zone took a safety and Marion led 14-0. Following a 40-yard return by Thomas after a free kick, QB Keshaun Taylor scored from 14 yards and it was 20-0 at the break.

The third quarter began with a long kickoff return by D’Angelo Jones that led to another JK Thomas touchdown, this one for three yards and Marion led 27-0. The Giants recorded two defensive touchdowns as Dre Aguilar pounced on a Anderson bad snap in the end zone and Xavier Gee stripped the ball from an Indians ballcarrier and ran in from five yards out and Marion led 39-0.

Marion closed out their scoring with a 33-yard touchdown run by Thomas, his fourth score of the game and Taylor ran it in from 38-yards out and the Giants move to 2-0 in the NCC with the 53-0 victory.

The Giants ran the ball 48 times for 322 yards and QB Keshaun Taylor was three of six passing for 58 yards.  Marion is now averaging 47 points per game and the defense has only allowed 31 points on the season with two shutouts.

The 4-0 Giants host the 1-3 Richmond Red Devils for Homecoming next Friday night. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:10 pm.
