Girls Varsity Soccer · Marion Lady Giant soccer battles Western for the Sectional Championship


The Marion Lady Giants gave it everything they had against Western in the Sectional Championship on Saturday. The Lady Giants fell short dropping a 4-2 decision to the Panthers.

In a very physical contest, Marion’s Taylor Kitts was guarded very aggressively but still did manage to connect on two penalty kick goals for the Lady Giants. The first goal gave Marion a 1-0 lead with 32:00 left in the first half. Western tied the game on a Penalty Kick four minutes later and then halfway through the first half the Panthers scored to take a 2-1 lead. Western added their third goal with just 10.6 seconds left until halftime.

Marion Started the second half down 3-1 and kept battling until Kitts scored her second Penalty Kick goal with 22:33 left in the game to bring Marion to within one goal at 3-2.

In a game that saw numerous players on both sides knocked down, the Lady Giants never quit. The game remained 3-2 until Western scored with 3:30 left to wrap up the title 4-2.

Marion’s Taylor Kitts concluded her spectacular junior season with a record setting 37 goals. The Lady Giants close out the ┬áseason at 10-8.
