It was another classic battle at the Bill Green Athletic Arena on Tuesday night. The Marion Lady Giants battled Oak Hill for 31 minutes and 50 seconds and were down 35-34. Marion had the ball and got it to their sensational junior RaShaya Kyle who missed a short shot but got her own rebound to score the game winner with 1.3 seconds left. When it was all over Marion had defeated Oak Hill 36-35 to move to 2-1 on the season.
Marion and Oak Hill battled from the opening tip and the Lady Eagles led 15-14 when Ellie Vermilion hit a 30-foot three pointer at the halftime buzzer and the Lady Giants led 17-15 at the break.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter but Marion was able to pull out to a 28-21 lead after three. In the fourth, Oak Hill fought back and took a 33-32 lead with 1:21 left in the game. After some back and forth action, Marion had the ball with 9.5 seconds left and went the length of the floor and got the ball to Kyle for the game winner.
Senior Jazmyn Turner was very consistent and led Marion with 13 points. Rashaya Kyle was next with 11. Markeisha Jackson scored six including two big field goals in the third quarter. Ellie Vermilion had three on a buzzer beater and Olivia Aguilar came off the bench for three. The Lady Giants will host Wabash on Saturday at 7:30 pm.
