Boys Varsity Wrestling · Marion Giant Wrestlers win at the Maconaquah Invitational


Marion Wrestling went to Maconaquah looking to repeat as team champions for the third straight year.

In the first round of the super duals Marion faced Tri-Central and won 59-24. Winners for Marion were David Cannon, Taylor Garriott, Nicolas Elliott, Troy Smith, Daylen Johnson, Obett Martinez, Tyron Rice, Kainen Malone-Johnson, Greg Johnson, and Victor Lee.

In the second round Marion faced Lapel and won 39-38. Winners for Marion were David Cannon, Taylor Garriott, Daylen Johnson, Tyron Rice, Garrett Scher, Kainen Malone-Johnson, and Victor Lee.

In the third round Marion faced Tipton and won 39-33. Winners for Marion were David Cannon, Taylor Garriott, Nicolas Elliott, Troy Smith, Daylen Johnson, Obett Martinez, and Garrett Scher.

In the fourth round Marion faced Rossville and won 46-36. Winners for Marion were David Cannon, Nicolas Elliott, Troy Smith, Daylen Johnson, Obett Martinez, Tyron Rice, Garrett Scher, and Victor Lee.

And in the fifth and final round Marion faced Lewis Cass in a battle for the championship and won 39-36 bringing another 1st place trophy home! Winners for Marion were David Cannon, Troy Smith, Daylen Johnson, Obett Martinez, Garrett Scher, Greg Johnson, and Victor Lee.

Wrestlers finishing 5-0 were David Cannon and Daylen Johnson.

Wrestlers finishing 4-1 were Troy Smith, Obett Martinez, Garrett Scher, and Victor Lee.

Wrestlers finishing 3-2 were Taylor Garriott, Nicolas Elliott, and Tyron Rice.

Marion Wrestling’s JV team took 10 wrestlers to compete in the Adam Central JV Invitational. Charlie Macomber, Corey Rice, and Kaleb Starr finished 5-0. Devonte Black finished 3-0 and Abdi Steenburgh finished 4-1.

The Giants Wrestling team is now 10-1 and will compete again next Saturday, December 8th at the Western Invitational.
