The Marion Giants did it again. Led by Jalen Blackmon’s 30 points, the Giants slipped by Ft. Wayne South Side 62-60 in a thriller on Saturday night.
For the second time in four days Marion came away with a hard fought two-point victory. The Giants trailed 16-9 after one and 33-22 at the half. Marion moved closer in the third and trailed by just five at 47-42 after three. During the fourth quarter as both teams fought hard Marion finally caught and tied the Archers at 60 with under a minute to play. The Giants had the ball playing for a final shot when Blackmon was fouled going for the hoop with five seconds to play. Marion’s star sophomore calmly knocked down both free throws and the Giants led 62-60 and South Side’s final shot came up short and the Giants had their third straight win.
Marion’s win once again was a team effort as after Blackmon’s 30, RaSheed Jones scored nine and Qu’Ran Howard and Josh Balfour both added 6 points and another hustling performance by D’Angelo Jones who scored five. Trey Miles had four and Louis Guerrero rounded out the scoring with two.
The Giants have won four of their last five to move to 5-4 on the season. Marion will host NCC rival Arsenal Tech on Friday night at 7:30 pm. The JV team plays at 6:00 pm.
